    Gabby Guthrie, 2020 Strawberry Queen

"It is so surreal that I get to serve as a role model and ambassador for Adair County.  What makes this all so much more special is my aunt was crowned 40 years ago, and my cousin was crowned 10 years ago.  Thank you to Kiwanis and the pageant committee for following through with this pageant despite the crazy circumstances.  You work hard for this organization and it has helped so many girls, like myself, to learn valuable life lessons.  Also, thank you to my family for supporting me through this whole journey."

"I hope to become a strong, reliable leader and role model for the youth of Adair County.  I have such a big love for kids and want to incorporate them any way I can.  Our daily lives are changing every day, but I still want to strive to be the best I can be with staying connected to my community, in-person, virtual, whatever bridge we need to cross in order to maintain this.  I am so excited to be your 2020 Strawberry Queen!"

Pageant directors and Kiwanis  Club members work with the girls twice a week for 6-7 weeks of training.  Developing grace and the girl's own personal skills and talents are the  focus of the sessions. Girls from all four county high schools and home  schools have the opportunity to work and dance together, making new  friends and having loads of fun.

By participating in the  Strawberry Festival Queen Pageant, girls are given the opportunity to  develop poise and self-confidence. They are taught interviewing skills  and practice answering questions under stressful conditions. These  abilities have lifetime benefits, enabling success in many work and  social situations.

In addition, each young lady that participates  receives a stipend and the top three contestants earn scholarships to  the college of their choice.
